
Do Solar Panels Work in Winter? Yes — Sometimes Better
Cold temperatures improve panel efficiency. AGAIC BSM715 HJT panels have a temperature coefficient of -0.26%/°C — on a 5°C winter day, they run above rated efficiency. A conventional PERC panel (-0.35%/°C) loses 50% more efficiency in the same heat.
The Real Challenge: Fewer Sun Hours
Berlin in December: ~1 peak sun hour vs ~5 in June. Less total energy, but each hour converts more efficiently.
Snow: Not the Enemy
Panels are angled — snow slides off. Dark glass warms in any sunlight. Bifacial panels actually gain from snow-reflected light: AGAIC HJT panels with 90–95% bifaciality can see boosted output from snowy ground.
